Horny Toad Women's Edina Top

Looking for a cozy top to throw on after a day outside? The Horny Toad Women’s Edina Top fits the bill. It is one of the softest materials I have come across in awhile. It is made from what they call cashmoore a 100% polyester fabric that feels like the real thing. Horny Toad claims, “It is a super soft dense knit that dries quickly, is machine washable and durable and feels too good for words.”

Packing for a Canadian ski hut vacation!

Tomorrow I am heading out of Jackson to make my way to Golden, B.C. where 20 of us will be heading into the Fairy Meadow Hut on Saturday. This will mark the beginning of an 8-day ski hut trip into the Adamant Group of the Selkirk Mountains…Yummy. With the consent of Mother Nature we will be boarding the helicopters on Saturday and get hauled off into the hut. Once at the hut we will endure 8 grueling days of skiing (no heli service here; You earn your turns), eating, drinking the Snake River Brewing 5 gallon kegs that the chopper is kindly hauling for us, reading by the fire, and bathing in the 10 person wet sauna. I told you…grueling.

Rudy Project Women's Rydon SX Sunglasses

My sunglass purchase experience goes something like this…go to a cheap store and buy two or three pairs of the cheapest sunglasses because I sit on them, misplace them, scratch them, basically treat them like garbage. The thought never occurred to me that if I spent money on a good pair of sunglasses that I actually enjoyed wearing, I might be kinder to them and even like having them around.

Arbor Push 156: Women's Snowboard

When I first saw the Arbor Push 156, I was struck by the beauty of the board. Arbor’s first women’s all-mountain freeride board is made with a bamboo topsheet which contributes to a durable and lightweight high performance board. After picking up this board, I was excited to head up to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and try it out on snow.

My manic redemption: Freedom from the flu!

Only after you have been out sick for two weeks with the flu, missing one of the most epic snow cycles since 1996 do you realize how manic you really are.

MANIC: frenzied: affected with or marked by frenzy or mania uncontrolled by reason.

Smith FUSE Snow Goggles

Somewhat skeptical of goggles as always, I was excited to try out the helmet-compatible Smith FUSE goggles. I wear a helmet and goggles most of the time so I look for a goggle that doesn’t fog, fits to my face, looks good, and cleans easily.

Win a trip to Red Rock Rendezvous in Vegas Baby!

Last year I was fortunate enough to attend the Red Rock Rendezvous with fellow www.womenspecific.comER, Beth Heninger. Though not a women’s specific climbing event the ladies had a strong presence. This great event that benefits the Access Fund will take place from March 24-26 in the Red Rock National Conservation Area in Las Vegas. This place is amazing. We met up with a group of great women and got some fun climbing in. If you can get the time free I suggest heading for the desert for some great climbing, yummy coffee, and meeting some excellent people.
This year the sponsors are giving away a trip for 2 including airfare, registration for the event, and gear package. You can click here to register.

The Uvex Wing S Ultra Pro Helmet

You can feel safe but hardly notice you are wearing a helmet.

Gliding down powder fields, telemarking through trees in the backcountry, or snowboarding on a crowded day at the resort, with the Uvex Wing Ultra Pro helmet, I feel safe and comfortable. And though not a women’s specific helmet, I think it looks pretty cool. I have to admit, when I first saw the Uvex helmet, I thought it was too much of a helmet for me. It’s sleek, metallic, shaped aerodynamically and has hard ear covers. But, when I put it on, it fit like a glove, with no squeezing and no jiggling. The Uvex Wing Ultra Pro stays comfortably in place while in use.

Woman dies in avalanche-Jackson, Wyoming.

Carina Ostberg has provided this guest blog.

Yesterday we had our first skier fatality of the year due to avalanche. This happened after a big storm, which in turn resulted in incredibly unstable conditions. There where naturally triggered avalanches all over the place. All of them on the same north-east aspect as the avalanche in question. In other words, people had been warned by nature itself to pay attention and be careful. Yet, a woman was killed.

Outdoor Research Womens Ergo Down Sweater

Teton weather in the last two weeks of 2005 provided bizarre and varied conditions for testing Outdoor Research’s Women’s Ergo Sweater. I wore it virtually every time I went outside and it performed well in temperatures that went from 20 below to 50 above zero! It was light, comfortable and, most importantly, a lovely earthy green that was gentle on the eyes in the back-country. Because it was lighter than a traditional down jacket it was cozy but not too hot for downhill skiing. It didn’t do great in pouring rain at Grand Targhee (nothing did), but did dry quickly.

Friendship and Safety for the New Year.

You think that once Christmas passes by you can begin to relax a bit. Well that has not been the case this past week. Aside from putting in large hours at the restaurant we got hit with a huge storm cycle. We have had 5 feet of snow since last Monday. Santa just kept giving this year. We have been contending with some parking problems at the top of Teton Pass this year. So many people are skiing the back-country that the department of transportation put a limit on how many cars can park at the top. They will tow you if you park out of the designated area. To get a legal parking spot you need to be up there no later than 7:30am. This made for a week of getting to bed late and waking up extremely early. Tis the season for fresh powder and no sleep.
