Save the drama for the Olympics. Do some research before purchasing your next bicycle.

After sub-zero temperatures and some great skiing we have our first day of temperatures rising into the 40’s…Balmy! The cycling bug immediately bit me. As I set up the bike trainer I dream of warmer weather, long road rides and epic backcountry mountain bike tours. The sad part is we are still a long way off up here in the Rockies.

Life Link Avalanche Lily (Uber Lily) Women's Ski Poles

I have been searching for an answer to the question: Does one need women’s specific poles? I decided to omit the usual sarcastic remarks I give when asked this question…I assure you they are well received. The Life Link Avalanche Lily’s were the test piece to answer this question.

The Tour of California: Not a shopping event.

Far from a women’s specific event, the Tour of California sprinted off this past Sunday in San Francisco. 16 teams (128 riders) from more than 25 countries are currently cranking down 600-miles ending on February 26 in Redondo Beach. Who needs shopping when you can watch cute boys on bicycles.

Ladies, it is time to think about upgrading your pride and joy...The road bike.

Submitted by Scott Fitzgerald
Fitzgerald’s Bicycles
Jackson, Wyoming

Are you tired of your old road fork? Does it shimmy when you hit the brakes before diving into a high speed turn coming down the pass? Could it be used by your fly fishing buddy to ancor his drift boat when the river is peaking? Or is it just as uninspiring as the tires that came stock on your bike? Here’s your chance to upgrade to one of the sweetest forks on the market! Easton has a fork trade-in program going on until April 1st that shouldn’t be missed. Get an instant $100 rebate off an Easton SLX or EC 90 Aero fork when you trade in your existing fork. Or, get an instant $70 rebate off an EC-90 SL fork. This is one of the best upgrades you can make so don’t wait around until the roads are dry and the deal is over…

Get out the tissues. NPR’s StoryCorps: Living Stories in Sound

As I was working in my office this morning I caught a program on NPR (Wyoming Public Radio) that really blew me away. The StoryCorps series is a national project that inspires people to record each others’ stories in sound. These stories are archived and available on NPR to hear. This project hopes to catch moments and emotions through voice over time and preserve them for future generations:

Smartwool Women’s Saratoga Zip

Day 8: Fairy Meadow Hut, Selkirk Range, Canada.

Waiting on the Heli…It might not make it in. Dumping snow still. It has been dropping an average of 6 inches of snow per day since we arrived. Everyday has been like Groundhogs Day: Deep snow, fresh tracks, aprs ski, sauna, beer, EAT, scrabble, bed.
Looks like we are not getting out today. Sweet!!! Must note that my Smartwool top still does not smell…good thing for everyone in the hut.

Sierra Designs Women’s Delphina Down Jacket

There are not too many places where you can consider a down jacket a primary layer. Well, living in Jackson Hole this winter and taking your vacation in the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia, Canada, makes this very possible.

Outdoor Retailer Winter 2006: A first-timers reaction to the bright lights in big city convention center.

I noticed that companies are beginning to offer more women’s products. As I sit and look at all the business cards I accumulated, I realize this story only scratches the surface of the market. I will be contacting each and every one of the people I talked to and only then will I understand if they truly get it. Women blab, women spend, women are picky, and you have 3 seconds to impress us…

CW-X Women's Pro Tight

These tights RULE! When I pulled them out of the package, I thought, “Oh, these are way too flashy for me.” I tend not to bring attention to myself out on the track by wearing anything with stripes, logos, or bright colors. Been there, done that. So, I put these on under my ski pants both on the track and in the backcountry. What a great product.

Mountain Hardwear Women's Sub Zero SL Hooded Jacket

I think they should re-name this jacket the “Heli-Luv”.

If hearing about a chopper dropping you and 19 of your buddies into the remotes Selkirk Range for 8 days of dreamy skiing catches your attention…read on about the great insulation layer that will help get you there. The Mountain Hardwear Women’s Sub Zero SL Hooded Jacket was a remarkable addition to my gear pile for this trip.

Trying to face reality after 9 days at the Fairy Meadow Hut.

I arrived home yesterday from 9 of the most amazing days of my life. I was lucky to spend these days completely out of touch with the rest of the world. No computers, no cars, no work, no current events, no flushing toilet. All of these modern necessities (some annoyances) were replaced with chest deep powder, amazing friends, yummy beer, pit toilets, gathering spring water from a 6 foot hole, sleeping in a bunk with 20 others (at times very smelly and noisy), and a great backcountry sauna to name a few.
