Female freeriders love the desert.

Jackson, Wyoming. The weather forecast for the past week: Sunny and upper 60’s. The forecast for the next week: The same. The biking has been absolutely incredible. The cycling junkie that I am, it is difficult to think that snow is around the corner. My skis keep calling to me from the garage as I walk my bike past them again and again and again. I continually reach for the Triflow rather than the wax and I am happy for that. Soon enough I will be waist deep in powder and cycling will be a distant memory. Until then…bring on the singletrack.

November tends to be a bit annoying around the northern Rockies: Too cold and wet for riding, but not enough snow for skiing. What does an adrenaline junkie do? Desert biking.

Desert biking plans are being finalized as we speak. Though the cycling weather here has been perfect, we all know how quickly that can change. Need to have a back up plan to get through the “off season”. It is hard not to ride into someone from Jackson in Moab, UT or Fruita, CO during this time.

To add some insight to this annual migration down to the desert, “Gale Dahlager”http://womenspecific.com/bios/20/gale-dahlager just submitted an article about the Zion Freeride Festival that just occurred in Virgin Utah. These women really like to throw themselves around. To read more on the women’s specific perspective of this event you can click here to read Stephanie Nychka’s article on Pinkbike.com.

Chances are I will see some of you on the Porcupine Rim this November. Don’t be afraid to carry those shin guards.
