We knew we wanted to pack as light as possible for hiking along the Na Pali Coast in Kauai. This trails gains 5,000 ft in elevation in 11 miles. This amazing trail leads you to the fairy-tale Kalalau Beach. This place is what dreams are made of.
With 80 degree temperatures and 150% humidity you really wanted to lighten the load for hiking. The MSR Simmerlite Stove really helped with this mission. This little stove kicked out some big flame.
Bonus Points: We boiled most of our water at camp with occasionally using Iodine while we were on trail. The Simmerlite boiled water in a matter of a few minutes. An upgrade for me from the WhisperLite, I was amazed at the rapid speed of boil. I also liked how easily the legs collapsed and folded in. The Simmerlite fit incredibly well into the MSR Duralite Mini Cookset. Love the easy packability of this little stove. I love using the MSR Fuel Bottle that can be re-filled. Not so into the throw-away fuel canisters for some of the stoves. NOTE:An empty MSR Fuel Bottle can be transported in CHECKED-IN Luggage.
NOT so Bonus Points: Though it is said to have great flame adjustability I did find the low simmer option a bit testy. It could be user error so I would love to hear some comments below on this.
OVERALL: Great little stove!
